 Fiona Freeman

My love of textiles started as a young child when my mother and both grandmothers encouraged me to sew. I would also sit next to my father and draw and paint or watch him designing and making things in the shed.

At school I enjoyed both the Sciences and the Arts and I have continued to take a keen interest in them both.  As a teenager I taught in our Church Sunday School and  realised that teaching was what I wanted to do as a career.

I trained to teach Textiles and Art and Design, in Secondary Schools.

It was Diana Springall, one of my college lecturers, who encouraged me to join the Embroiderers’ Guild as a student and I have been a member ever since.

Half way through my teaching career, I was asked to retrain to enable me to teach Design and Technology as well. I took up the challenge and have thoroughly enjoyed my teaching

career.

I get my design inspiration from nature and our travels, with help from my photographs and my love of gardening.
